Scientists link obesity to gut bacteria

A fascinating bit of news: researchers in China have linked obesity to bacteria in the human gut.  This would be fascinating on many levels - as research has shown, the US social security system currently underestimate US longevity by a considerable margin. Some relief was in sight with younger age cohorts actually displaying higher mortality rates than anticipated mainly due to pervasive obesity in the US population. But if obesity really can be tackled medically (doing away with cumbersome lifestyle choices and changes), chances are that US social security is still very under-reserved.
