Maple Life Analytics has compared the Life Expectancy reports of Fasano, AVS and 21st services - the three Life Settlement medical underwriters based on their underwriting data from 2005 to 2012.
The study is based on 9,452 unique lives and 16,388 observations. The full report could be downloaded from http://maplelifeanalytics.com/research.
The authors have not stated explicitly the number of observations (out of the total 16,388) for each year from 2005 to 2012. However, it can be inferred from the one of the charts that almost 85% of the data is for the period 2005-2008. In the last quarter of 2008, two medical underwriters, American Viatical Services (AVS) and 21st Services, made significant changes to their underwriting methodology which resulted in significant extension of the Life Expectancy estimates. Therefore, the inference from the report would be skewed to the status quo for the period prior to the 2008.
The report does correctly infer that Fasano associates provides the most conservative Life Expectancy estimates and 21st Services the least, with AVS oscillating in between. The market, however requires the most accurate. As John Maynard Keynes said "In the long run we are all dead".
